Dear PhD students in the IAMU Member Universities,

The World Maritime University (WMU) offers a range of PhD Elective Subjects which may benefit the current PhD students in the IAMU Member Universities, with limited seats availability and conditions which may be applied.

This year, WMU will launch a gender-related training course, called “Women’s Leadership and Empowerment Training”, in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) (https://www.imo.org/en/MediaCentre/Pages/%20WhatsNew-2246.aspx). A limited number of seats are open for PhD students to enroll one of the two PhD Elective Subjects:

PHD221: Women’s Leadership and Empowerment Training (8 EC)

• 9-11 September 2025 (Online, 1300-1600 CEST)
• 6-10 October 2025 (In-person@WMU (Malmö, Sweden)
• 21-22 October 2025 (Online, 1300-1600 CEST)

PHD222: Gender-sensitive project management and career development strategies (Online) (4 EC)

• 9-11 September 2025 (Online, 1300-1600 CEST)
• 21-22 October 2025 (Online, 1300-1600 CEST)

If you are interested in enrolling in this subject, please submit a letter of motivation for these specific subjects to phd@wmu.se with your main supervisor's approval and signature by 29 August 2025 at the latest.

Please note that

• apart from the application form, you will need to submit a letter of motivation. for these specific subjects.
• although these subjects are designed for women, they are open to all genders.
• a priority may be given to WMU students, EU students, non-EU students (with MoU with WMU), and non-EU students (no MoU with WMU) in order.
• a course fee is free of charge, however students are responsible for securing funding or self-sponsoring their travel, accommodation, meals, other incidentals, insurance, visa fee and related costs if applicable, and any other personal costs.
