The Career Development Center is an organizational unit of the Faculty of Maritime Studies established to monitor the development of student potential, achieve successful student careers, and acquire skills by learning through work and by simulating real business situations.


DESCRIPTION OF THE CENTER

The Career Development Center aids and supports to students in all phases of research, planning, and career development from the very beginning of their studies until finding employment and is in charge of helping to organize the implementation of professional practice.

MISSION OF THE CENTER

The mission of the Career Development Center is to support each student in the development of their individual potential and to provide services for acquiring business and communication skills that will enable students for future challenges and to create a successful business career.

GOALS OF THE CENTER

The main goal of the Career Development Center is to monitor the development of student’s potential during their studies with the aim of achieving a successful career and competitiveness in the labor market. In this regard, it is necessary to create long-term partnerships with employers, alumni, and the broader community that provide opportunities for student career development and provide information on labor market trends and current employment issues. This leads to additional goals:

  • career planning and development (career support for students)
  • connecting students with employers to make it easier to find a job and develop a career
  • provide support to students when applying for student projects, scholarships, or applying for individual competitions or contests
  • holding workshops and education for students in order to increase the competencies of students needed to enter the labor market
  • provide support in the organization of formal and informal events at the faculty (lectures, workshops, practicums, Alumni Days, Career Days, sports competitions, etc.)
  • participate in the organization of various forms of implementation of professional practice within the curriculum and beyond in order to build the professional skills of students
  • hold individual or group consultations
  • connect students with experts in economics (practice) for research purposes, implementation of project tasks within the teaching process, and preparation of final and graduate theses.

CENTER ACTIVITIES

  • Organization of workshops and interactive events for students in the following thematic areas (soft skills development): compiling CV’s and cover letters, job search process, job interview preparation, self-assessment tests, job interview simulation, communication and presentation skills, selection interviews, negotiation, quitting, networking within the profession, career planning, branding and using social networks in search of work.
  • Assistance in organizing professional practicethat is carried out within the curriculum at the faculty (work on training grounds, training grounds, practicums, field classes, etc.) in order to provide opportunities for better education through professional experience in companies where students acquire additional practical knowledge and skills.
  • Encouraging the establishment of professional and teaching basesbetween employers and faculties and maintaining and updating the base of employers (web applications) who are willing to provide students with student internships.
  • Organization of guest and popular lectures, thematic workshops, and workshops on selected areasof the curriculum or outside the curriculum that expands theoretical knowledge with examples of practical application. In this regard, close cooperation with the Alumni Club in the organization of Alumni Days is expected.
  • Assistance in organizing informal events such as rowing regattas, charity races, interfaculty sports competitions, informal student gatherings, etc.
  • Job shadowing - Visiting companies and provide the opportunity to, in addition to theoretical knowledge acquired in the study, students gain insight into the application of theoretical knowledge in a real business environment.
  • Career Talks -A series of gatherings with students that cover a range of different topics related to career development (meeting employers, student job opportunities, scholarship opportunities, entrepreneurship development, student competitions, presenting activities in which students can get involved).
  • Career Day - provide help in organisation of a "job fair". The goal is to acquaint students with employment opportunities and career development in Croatia and abroad and to connect employers with students.
  • Recruitment at the faculty – At the request of potential employers, the Center can help connect employers and interested students.
  • Presentation of the facultyand its achievements in the teaching process, as well as in the scientific, social, and humanitarian) to all interested (future students, employers, and the wider community).
