Founder of the Foundation:
The founder of the Foundation is the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime Studies, Studentska 2, Rijeka.
The Foundation "Professor Predrag Stanković" is named after our professor, former dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies and rector of the University of Rijeka.
By the Decision of the Office of State Administration of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Foundation was formally established and began its work on December 23, 2020.
The Foundation is registered in the Register of Foundations of the Republic of Croatia.
Purpose of the Foundation:
The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage excellence and to assist students from socially vulnerable groups at the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Rijeka by providing financial support through tuition scholarships and other forms of financial aid for talented students and those with outstanding academic results.
The Foundation’s funds may also be used for financial support of young and talented students of the Faculty who are engaged in research projects as part of their studies, as well as for financial support of students intending to spend part of their studies abroad for the purpose of mobility.
Bodies of the Foundation:
The bodies of the Foundation are: the Management Board and the Director of the Foundation.

Prof. Predrag Stanković: Professor, Dean, Croatian Lawyer and Expert
Professor Predrag Stanković (1934–2000) graduated from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb in 1957, and earned his PhD in Novi Sad in 1975, obtaining the title of Doctor of Science in the field of social sciences, area of law.
He joined the Higher Maritime School (today’s Faculty of Maritime Studies) in 1960, where during his career he taught maritime law and transport law subjects.
He served as Dean of the Higher Maritime School from 1972 to 1974, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime and Transport from 1984 to 1988, and Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies from 1984 to 1986. From 1984 to 1987 he held the position of Rector of the University of Rijeka. In 1976, he received the City of Rijeka Award. In addition to his contributions in the field of law, through his lectures he also won over students of the three departments of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, who in the academic year 1992/93 voted him the best teacher.
Apart from teaching at the Higher Maritime School and the Faculty of Maritime Studies, he also occasionally lectured at maritime faculties and higher education institutions in Kotor and Piran. He was a visiting professor at the World Maritime University in Malmö (Sweden), and was elected no fewer than seven times to the Board of Governors of this prestigious maritime institution under the auspices of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Professor Stanković was an exceptional lawyer and expert, and was occasionally engaged as an average adjuster and legal advisor for the Port of Rijeka and several shipping companies in cases of collision, salvage at sea, and general average. He was also listed as an arbitrator in the registers of international maritime and foreign trade arbitrations in Cairo, Kuala Lumpur, and Zagreb.
Professor Stanković truly deserves to be remembered permanently as a professor who dedicated his work and legacy to the Faculty of Maritime Studies, the University of Rijeka, the economy of Rijeka, and the international maritime community.
