PUBLISHING ACTIVITY
The primary purpose of the Faculty’s publishing activity is to contribute to the development and competitiveness of the Faculty’s teaching, scientific, educational and other activities, while respecting the publishing standards of both the Faculty and the University of Rijeka. The main objectives include: ensuring the necessary scientific and professional literature for the Faculty’s study programmes; publishing scientific and professional papers by the Faculty’s staff; and promoting the scientific and professional activities organised by the Faculty.
In addition to promoting science, professional expertise, scientific thought and a scientific approach in the multidisciplinary and complex field of maritime studies, an important goal of the Faculty’s publishing activity is to provide students with high-quality teaching materials—namely textbooks, collections of problems and other types of publications directly related to the syllabi of individual courses.
A prominent place in the Faculty’s publishing activities is held by key periodical publications, such as: the multidisciplinary scientific journal Pomorstvo – Scientific Journal of Maritime Research; proceedings and/or books of abstracts from international scientific symposia and conferences (for example, the Proceedings of the International GNSS Conference, and the Book of Abstracts from the “My First Conference” (PhD Conference on Engineering and Technology), among others). With particular attention, the Faculty also supports official informational publications, such as: the First-Year Student Handbook, the PFRI Bulletin (the Faculty’s official newsletter), and the student magazine Plima.
The guidelines for the Faculty’s publishing activities are defined by the relevant regulations and the publishing standards of the University of Rijeka, as well as by the Faculty’s Quality Manual, within the business process PP-46 Publishing and Sale of Faculty Publications.
Oversight of the publication process is the responsibility of the Vice-Dean for Business Relations. The process of publishing is managed by the Committee for Publishing Activity of the Faculty, while the editors of the Faculty’s periodical publications are responsible for the publication of those periodicals (journals, conference proceedings, official informational publications, etc.).
