As a constituent unit of the University of Rijeka, the Faculty of Maritime Studies participates in professional activities in response to the needs of the maritime industry sector and the wider community. Particular emphasis is placed on cooperation with the maritime professional business sector, where scientific and professional expertise can be applied through preparing professional projects and studies at national and international levels.
The professional projects carried out by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime Studies include:
- Navigational, berthing, anchoring, and port area safety studies, as well as Maritime Safety Studies in accordance with the Regulation on the Conditions and Methods of Maintaining Order in Ports and Other Parts of the Internal Sea Waters and Territorial Sea of the Republic of Croatia
- Maritime Safety Studies to prepare Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
- Drafting Port Regulations with accompanying by-laws and plans for the port area (e.g., Regulations on Handling Solid and Liquid Hazardous Cargo – IMDG cargo, Waste Reception and Handling Plan, Regulation on Classes and Quantities of Hazardous Substances in the Port, Port Security Plan, etc.)
- Port and harbour mooring system design
- Full Mission Bridge (FMB) navigational simulation studies
- Port and port area master development plans
- Concession analysis for the commercial use of the maritime domain aimed at reviving economic activities within specific port areas
- Feasibility studies for granting concessions for the commercial use of the maritime domain
- Economic and financial impact analyses for port and port area development
- Analyze and categorize berths within port areas
- Maritime domain management plans
- Drafting regulations for state administration and relevant ministries (e.g., the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia; the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets; the Agency for Coastal Liner Maritime Transport, and others)
- Preparation of technical and tender documentation
- Expert analysis and reporting per the Regulation on the Procedures, Conditions, and Authorizations for Conducting Administrative Investigations of Maritime Accidents
- Aerial and underwater drone-based port area surveying and analysis services
- Consulting, assessment, supervision, and advisory services in the maritime business
