Welcome to UPTZ - Association of Technical Science
The Association of Technical Science brings together students, professors, and experts from various technical fields with the aim of developing innovative solutions and promoting sustainable technologies in maritime activities. It was founded by students and professors from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Rijeka, and today it unites members from diverse technical disciplines, ranging from electrical and mechanical engineering to shipbuilding and computer technologies.
UPTZ members participate in projects that involve the design, construction, and testing of innovative vessels, with their work being recognized at international competitions such as the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge and HydroContest.
Among the association’s most notable projects are:
- Vilson – the fastest electric vessel in Croatia, powered by a 20 kW electric motor and a 10 kWh battery, reaching a maximum speed of 25 knots.
- Malo Vitra – a solar-powered racing catamaran prototype demonstrating sustainable technology in maritime mobility.
- Teredo Navalis – a solar vessel developed for the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, reaching a maximum speed of 16 knots using a 1.5 kWh battery and solar cells.
- Delta One – the first solar vessel created in collaboration with the Rijeka Rowing Club Jadran.
- Karolina – an autonomous vessel capable of navigating preset routes and avoiding obstacles, developed in collaboration with the Innovamare Digital Innovation Hub.
UPTZ at International Competitions
The Association of Technical Science has achieved notable results at international solar-powered boat competitions.
- With the vessel Delta One, they won 3rd place in the 2021 acceleration race and received the special jury award, Coup de Cœur, for dedication and effort.
- Two years later, they competed in two categories – in the Solar Class, Teredo Navalis finished 8th out of 13 teams, while in the Solar Energy Class, Malo Vitra achieved 3rd place in endurance and 5th place in slalom and elimination races, resulting in an overall 4th place in the category.
- The following year, with Vilson, they won 2nd place in the Solar Energy Class, and in 2025, with the upgraded Vilson, they achieved 3rd place out of 20 teams in the Energy Class. For the first time, they also participated with Karolina in the AI Class, facing technical challenges.
The association actively organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences, providing members with opportunities for professional development and networking with experts from various technical disciplines. UPTZ aims to foster innovation, promote technical culture, and inspire new generations of engineers and researchers.
